At least 10 people were killed in eastern Tajikistan on Thursday by at least several avalanches, authorities said. Thus, the number of people killed by avalanches in the last two days in this part of the country has increased to 20. Buildings have been destroyed, avalanches have descended on roads. Hundreds of families had to leave their homes.

On Wednesday, avalanches caused by heavy snowfall in Nagorno Badakhshan, eastern Tajikistan, killed 10 people.

The services reported that only one avalanche destroyed several buildings in the city of Khorog, the capital of the region, killing eight people. Another one affected the Wanj district, resulting in the death of one person. A fatality was also reported on the highway between the country’s capital Dushanbe and Varzob.

On Thursday, authorities said another series of avalanches in eastern Tajikistan also killed 10 people.

More than 400 households were evacuated in Gorski Badakhshan. Rizo Nazarzoda, the mayor of the regional capital, appealed to 30,000 residents to stay at home.
