A tragic accident in the Slovak Tatras. While climbing without protection, 46-years old tourist from Poland fell from a height of 50 meters. Lifeguards were notified by his partner. The man could not be saved.

The rescuers of Horska Zachranna Służba (HZS), the Slovak counterpart of TOPR, informed about the tragic accident on Friday.

They climbed without protection

According to Slovak rescuers, Polish tourists were climbing on Friday afternoon in the High Tatras in the area above the Turni Garden (2433 m above sea level, the Slovak name is Kvetnicová Veža). At one point, the man fell into the abyss. His partner called the emergency number for help. She was unable to say exactly where the 46-year-old was and in what condition he was.

A HZS helicopter and a group of rescuers went there. Unfortunately, it turned out that the man died on the spot. “As it turned out, the couple was leaving the exposed area without security. The 46-year-old slipped and fell about 50 meters along a vertical wall” – reads the mountain ambulance announcement.

The body of the tourist was transported to Stary Smokovec near Poprad and handed over to the policemen.
