On Saturday, the weather encourages mountain expeditions, but even in good conditions you should not forget about the appropriate equipment. As TVN24 reporter Maciej Stasiński said, there is still hard, compact snow high in the Tatra Mountains, which is easy to slip on. The routes should also be adapted to your skills.

On Saturday, the Tatra National Park reported that the higher parts, especially on the northern side of the ridge Tatra Mountains There is still snow on high places and in the gullies, which is very slippery. After heavy rainfall, the trails are very wet and slippery, forest sections are muddy, and the water level in streams is high.

It's easy to have an accident

TVN24 reporter Maciej Stasiński said on TVN24 that although spring and summer conditions prevail in Podhale on Saturday, in the mountains the thermometers showed only 8 degrees Celsius, and in places there is hard snow. These conditions come as a surprise to unprepared tourists. On Friday, a group of a dozen or so people got stuck on a frozen patch near Rysy, and one person slid down the snow, sustaining injuries. The rescue operation was hampered by changeable, stormy weather.

– Unfortunately, most of them were not well prepared for these conditions – he said. – You have to have crampons, not hands. Crawling hands on such hard snow simply can't handle it.

The rescuers appealed that during trips we must also be aware of where we are going and what the weather is like. All trips should be planned according to your skills and experience.

Safety and common sense

The weather is also favorable for expeditions in the Beskids. On Saturday morning, GOPR rescuers reported that tourist conditions in the Beskids were good or even very good.

– Temperatures were at 8 from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, they will grow during the day. Visibility is very good. You can go to the mountains and admire wonderful views – said the rescuer on duty at the GOPR station in Szczyrk.

Tourists who go for a walk in the mountains should remember to dress appropriately, taking into account that the weather can change dramatically. Particularly important are: solid footwear, a hat and a waterproof jacket. You should have a supply of fluids, a charged mobile phone with the “Ratunek” application and a power bank.

In case it comes storm you have to get out of the open. You must not take shelter under a tree because of falling branches. You should also not stand near rocks on which water is flowing, as it may cause injury.
