On Friday and from Monday until further notice, the road to Morskie Oko, the most popular place in the Polish Tatras, will be closed to tourists. The reason is renovation of the surface. There will be no difficulties only at the weekend.
The road to Morskie Oko will be completely closed to pedestrian and circular traffic on Friday, May 30, and from Monday, June 2 to reference, the Tatra National Park informed. There will be no difficulties this weekend.
Road renovation to Morskie Oko
The planned closing of the road is related to The next stage of the surface renovation from the Wanta forester's lodge towards Palenica Białczańska. This is a section about 2.5 kilometers long.
In connection with road works on May 30 and from June 2, it will not be possible to reach the Morskie Oko from Palenica BiaÅ‚czaÅ„ska – both for pedestrians and for horse transport and electric buses.

According to TPN, only a walk to Rusinowa Polana will be possible these days. Access to Morskie eye with alternative trails – e.g. through the GÄ…sienicowa Valley – will be possible, but due to their length and difficulty TPN suggests postponing the trip to the period after the end of work.
When will they open their way to Morskie Oko again?
If weather conditions allow this, the pedestrian traffic on the renovated section will be restored at the earliest on Wednesday, June 4. Horse transport can be resumed with a delay of 1-2 days – after finishing work – inform the park authorities.
This weekend, the road to Morskie Oko will remain open to both pedestrian and vehicle tourists.
TPN ensures that in the event of changes in the schedule – dependent mainly on the weather – it will keep it on a regular basis. Parking lots in the area of ​​the trail to Morskie Oko will function unchanged for tourists planning to travel to other regions of the Tatra Mountains.

Tourist conditions in the Tatra Mountains
As the Tatra National Park announced in a Thursday tourist communication, not only the trail to Morskie Oko will be closed in the near future. From May 29, the black tourist trail on the section between Polana Chochołowska and the chapel of St. John the Baptist. The reason is the renovation of this chapel.
Although it is late spring, the first degree of avalanche threat applies in the Tatras. A similar forecast applies to Friday, May 30.

“The snow cover is generally well bound and stable. The liberation of the avalanche is generally possible only with high additional load in a few places at very steep or extreme slopes. It is possible to spontaneously descend of small and medium avalanches” – reads the volunteer emergency service in Tatra.
As emphasized in the TPN announcement, “in the snow in the upper parts, it is very slippery. Slipping in a steep terrain, threatens a dangerous fall from a height.”
