“The worst consequences are when a person brakes on stones”
The consequences of such behavior were discussed by TOPR rescuer Piotr Konopka. – When you encounter a stone hidden under the snow, you can hurt yourself painfully, and the worst consequences are when a person reaches and stops on the stones. Then he often suffers from very serious injuries, including fatal ones, he warned.
Lifeguards remind you of the appropriate equipment when going to the mountains. You should have crampons stabilizing our movements in the snow, as well as an ice ax and a helmet.
Hard and frozen snow in the mountains
As we read in the announcement of the Tatra National Park in the higher parts Tatra Mountains, in many places there is still snow which is hard and frozen, especially in the morning hours and in shady places. In the afternoon, in sunny places, the snow becomes wet, slushy and disappearing. Navigating in such conditions requires experience and appropriate equipment.
The communiqué added that “after the winter you should be very vigilant, because with the melting snow, rocks are melting, which are very dangerous when falling down steep slopes and gullies”.
