Rescuers of the Tatra Volunteer Rescue Service warn that moving on the trails is difficult due to snowfall. The first level of avalanche danger applies. – The conditions in the Tatra Mountains are very hard at the moment – said TOPR rescuer Tomasz Nodzyński.

TOPR rescuers advise against trips to the mountains. – Conditions in Tatra Mountains they are very heavy at the moment. Typical early winter conditions prevail. There is quite a lot of snow for this time of year, but it is not yet real winter – said TOPR rescuer Tomasz Nodzyński.

In the Tatras, the first degree of avalanche danger in a five-level, ascending scale applies. According to the statement of the Tatra Volunteer Rescue Service, the snow cover is generally well bound and stable.

– Snow makes it very difficult to navigate the trails and in some places it can pose an avalanche risk. The first degree is not much, but in fact there can be small avalanches that can do harm – warns Tomasz Nodzyński.

Difficult conditions in the mountains

In the higher parts of the Tatra Mountains there are very difficult conditions for tourism. According to the Tatra National Park, the snow cover is highly differentiated. In many places there is icing, often covered with a thin layer of snow, here and there stones protrude.

– Conditions for hiking are poor, there are not many tourists. The weekend is coming, but the weekend is supposed to be a break in the weather, with more snowfall. These are definitely not conditions for mountain hiking – emphasizes Tomasz Nodzyński.

Rain is expected to stop on Saturday, but temperatures will drop. Sunday will bring another “delivery” of snow. The weekend is supposed to bring a lot of cooling – at night temperature in Zakopane it can drop significantly below -10 degrees Celsius. In the following days it will be even colder – on the peaks of the Tatra Mountains the temperature will drop to about -20 degrees Celsius.
