Before dawn, a fire broke out in a multi-family building in Tczew (Pomeranian Voivodeship). Thick smoke quickly cut off the escape routes for the residents. Firemen evacuated tenants using an electric ladder. One person was killed and two were hospitalized.

A fire in a multi-family building at Niepodległości Street in Tczew (Pomeranian Voivodeship). The fire appeared on Thursday morning – The neighbor rang the bell somehow chaotically. We woke up and left the house because she said it was on fire. It was around 4.30 – says one of the residents of the building.

Several fire brigades were ordered to the site. – Upon arrival, the firefighters found the apartment completely covered with fire and the residents who were trapped in their own apartments, due to the fact that the staircase was completely smoky. Firefighters erected a mechanical ladder with the help of which people from the above floors were evacuated – says the young Captain. Michał Myrda, spokesman of the Tczew fire brigade.

In total, 28 residents were evacuated. – We’re on the first floor. The firefighters pulled us out with a special ladder. We will be able to return to our apartment, but the people from the second floor up will not yet – says one of the residents.

As a result of the fire, one person died and two were taken to hospital. The causes of the fire will be investigated by the police.
