Teachers want to teach children about health. The great popularity of postgraduate studies on health education

– This will also contribute to the fact that my competences will increase – indicates Krzysztof Obrębski, a psychotraumatologist, pedagogue and deputy director of the School Complex No. 31 in Warsaw.

Postgraduate in health education, which Krzysztof Obrębski wants to go to, will give him the opportunity not only to conduct classes, but will also help to better understand students.

– Health education is needed not only in the field of mental health, but also in physical culture and that we would pay attention to, for example, what we eat – notes Krzysztof Obrębski.

Although health education has not yet appeared in the lesson, it is already becoming a hit. Among teachers.

– It shows how great the need for these studies is. This is a future topic – emphasizes prof. Małgorzata Żendzian-Piotrowska, head of postgraduate studies in health education at the Medical University of Bialystok.

These studies are a free postgraduate for teachers, which is to prepare them for teaching health education. This is a new subject entering schools from September. At the University of Bialystok there are nearly four times more willing than places.

– We have 60 places, but I think about 155 – estimates Dr. Karina Leks from the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice.

Postgraduate studies will conduct 11 universities. Universities are already informing about “very great interest”. – Interest is considerable. Many people call us and send emails with a question – says prof. Agnieszka Zimmermann, Vice -Rector of the Medical University of Gdańsk.

Studies are financed from the budget of the Ministry of National Education and three semesters will last. Deputy Minister Lubnauer talks about the siege.

– We have minimal and maximum limits, and we already know that we will achieve these maximum limits everywhere, i.e. that we will fill all 570 places – says Katarzyna Lubnauer, deputy minister of national education from the Civic Coalition. For her it is joyful information. He is glad that the subject of health education enters school.

Teachers were not scared of protests or arguments about the alleged “sexualization of children”. The ministry is planning that biology or family life teachers will have qualifications to conduct health education classes. For them, the postgraduate is an opportunity to broaden knowledge, not a necessary condition.

As it turns out, now a more important question than who will teach is whether there will be anyone to teach.

– We are talking about students in class VI, VII or VIII, who are already very worked. (…) We may be afraid that they will not be happy to take part in additional classes – says Dr. Iga Kazimierczyk, president of the “Space for Education” Foundation, a member of the “Free School” initiative.

Health education will be an optional subject. It will also replace optional family life education. – Those who use education for family life are not too much – says Bożena Nawrocka, deputy director of Primary School No. 173 in Łódź.
