The President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) initiated the second stage of the procedure concerning the takeover of Tesco Polska stores by the Salling Group, which includes the Netto Polska chain.
Information on this matter was provided by UOKiK in a post on Twitter. “In this case, it is necessary to conduct a market research” – he added.
Commencement of the second stage of the procedure does not prejudge the type of decision to be issued in the future. The President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection may consent (unconditional or conditional) to the concentration or prohibit it.
Takeover of Tesco Polska stores

The transaction includes 301 stores, distribution centers and a headquarters. Its completion is expected in the fourth quarter of 2020. As announced in the announcement, “under the contract, approximately 7,000 Tesco employees will be transferred to the Salling Group.”
Salling Group plans to transform the acquired Tesco stores into Netto 3.0 no later than 18 months from the completion of the transaction. Netto Polska, which currently runs 386 stores in our country, will be at the forefront of domestic retailers after the completion of the acquisition process.
