– The climate was murderous, it was hot, high humidity, and we did not have air conditioning in the rooms. And one of the colleagues tried to cool down in a different way. As a result, he colds, and in such a discipline as rowing, even a light cold has catastrophic effects. It ended only in seventh place – added Dad Iga Świątek.

He managed to get the medal at the Universiade in 1987. Poles in the same composition as in Seoul won gold rings.

Tomasz Świątek also took part in the three World Championships in Copenhagen (1987), Bled (1989) and Barrington (1990). Poles occupied in these World Cups, respectively: fifth, fifth and eleventh place.
