The guests of Sunday’s “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 were political scientists: Doctor Anna Materska-Sosnowska from the University of Warsaw and the Batory Foundation, and Professor Sławomir Sowiński from the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University. They commented on the recent activities of the leaders of the largest political parties. PiS president Jaroslaw Kaczynski performed on Sunday at the Assembly of Polish Villages, while the leader of PO took part in the event “Meet Up: New Generation of Civic Platform” on Saturday.

Dr. Materska-Sosnowska: it smells like elections, and what’s more

Dr. Materska-Sosnowska said that “the number of conventions indicates that it smells of elections, and what’s more.” She referred, inter alia, to the situation in the government camp. In her opinion, the division in of the United Right “it already is”. – If we look at what Solidarna Polska is doing, how it establishes its field organizations, in what intensification, impact, then this division is there – she added.

According to the political scientist, the leaders of both parties – PiS and Solidarity Poland – “they are checking each other out.” – I think that in the end it is Jarosław Kaczyński who will be in check, because he is the one who draws up the lists and decides who will be on them and who will not, and Ziobro has no idea where to get strength, additional strength. So I think there will be no big divisions here, because they also know that d’Hondt (the d’Hondt method, i.e. converting votes into mandates – ed.) is relentless, she added.

Prof. Sowiński: the battle is on to sit at the Christmas table with his political story

Professor Sowiński said that “this and the next weekend are quite special”. – Because politicians know perfectly well that we shape or model our political beliefs to a large extent at family or neighborhood tables. At the moment there is already a battle to sit at the Christmas table with your political story – he said. He assessed that “this is a fight for Poles to adopt the point of view of their politicians at the Christmas table”.

He also referred to tensions within the United Right. – I think that while PiS and Solidarna Polska could function for three years in a state of such a ritual, deep conflict, I cannot imagine entering a real election campaign in such a state of division. I cannot imagine that in such a conflict, PiS will find some new political quality that it needs, he added.
