The bear attacked a family with two young children. The incident occurred on the trail leading to the top of Hlinisko in the poviat of Liptowski Mikułasz in Slovakia.
The attack took place on Saturday afternoon near the town of Železné, located in the poviat of Liptowski Mikułasz in Slovakia. The family followed the trail leading to the summit of Hlinisko, when the bear attacked it – told Ladislav Balážec, the mayor of the village of Partizánska ľupča.
– Thanks to the courage of the father of the minor children who were attacked by the bear, they did not suffer any injuries. The mother of children was slightly injured, who together with her father protected them with her own body – the mayor told local media.
Hlinisko is a peak with a height of 1081 meters above sea level, which is located in the western part of Niżne Tatra.
Near the attack site
Brown bears experts in Slovakia together with employees of the Niżne Tatry National Park (Napant) came to the place of the attack. They found Niera Nieźwiedzia a few meters from the scene.
– We placed a camera near the burrow. If the bear behaves strangely, he will stop being afraid, it will be eliminated by the Napant intervention team, “said nature defenders.
The mayor appealed to people to avoid this place.
How to behave during a meeting with a bear?
When we encounter a bear in the forest, it is better to be very careful. Here are the rules to remember:
- Go quietly and calmly. Do not run so that the bear does not treat you like a prey. Do not go to the tree either, because the bear does it much better.
- If you come across a young one, withdraw especially carefully. There may be a female nearby, who can be very dangerous in their defense.
- Do not feed the bear, do not leave the remains of food or packaging that may interest them. Bears are particularly dangerous while feeding.
- Do not approach them to take a picture or record a movie. Flash flash or lighting with a flashlight can irritate them.
- If you stand eye to the bear, gently tear the backpack's hip belt to be able to lose it – it may interest the predator. However, do not perform violent movements and control his behavior. Don't look in his eyes.
- It is particularly dangerous when the bear is watching you and has his ears to the back. Then be particularly cautious, do not make violent movements, withdraw very slowly.
- If the bear does not lose your interest in you, gently lie down on the ground, the leg crash, cut your neck and face with your hands. In most cases, he will leave you alone, in the worst case – he should scratch at most.
