The brown bear, which a few months ago underwent pioneering brain surgery, woke up from winter sleep. According to doctors, leaving this state was one of the most important stages in his recovery. Last year, the animal was diagnosed with hydrocephalus.
The brown bear suffered from seizures and vision problems due to the accumulation of the brain pressure. In October, specialists from the British organization Wildwood Kent decided to carry out a pioneering surgery. During the side, a tube was put on a tube running from the brain, under the skin, to the bladder to drain excess fluid. According to doctors, the procedure had to be performed before the animal falls into a winter sleep. Otherwise, the sides may not wake up.
“He recovered in a wonderful way”
According to the British organization, Wilwood Kent dealing with Boki, the bear woke up from winter sleep in very good condition. The animal no longer takes medicine, and also does not feel negative side effects.
– He looks great, he is happy and healthy, we didn't see any negative signs with him. All his personality traits are still the same – he is still the same old Boki we love – said Jon Forde from Wildwood Kent.
During the lethargy, the sides lost about 30 kilograms, which is why he is currently under the watchful care of specialists. According to the British media, the bear was rejected by his mother when he was young. In December 2022 he went to the shelter near Canterbury. Now experts are to focus on the peaceful return of Boki to full strength and integration with other individuals.
“We will watch it closely and if everything goes well, we will conduct a familiarization test in the coming months,” Fordy added.
