The best university in the world remains the American Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), according to the new edition of the QS World University Rankings. It was closely followed by two British universities. Among Polish universities, the University of Warsaw was the best.

On Tuesday, a new, 20th edition of the QS World University Rankings prepared for next year 2024 was published. The best universities in the world were distinguished on the basis of nine indicators: university reputation, reputation among employers, citations (in scientific publications), student-faculty ratio, number of foreign students and employees, international research network, graduate employment results and sustainable development. This year, the list includes almost 1,500 universities from 104 countries around the world.

The best universities in the world – ranking for 2024

In the new ranking, just like last year, the winner was the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), for the 12th time since the ranking was conducted. The top ten best universities in the world include:

1) Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) 2) University of Cambridge 3) University of Oxford 4) Harvard University 5) Stanford University 6) Imperial College London 7) ETH Zurich – Swiss Federal Institute of Technology 8) National University of Singapore (NUS 9) University College London (UCL) 10) University of California, Berkeley (UCB)

The University of Warsaw was the best among 21 Polish universities included in the ranking. It also moved up 22 places compared to 2023 and took 262nd place in the world. The Jagiellonian University is second in Poland and 304th in the world, and the Warsaw University of Technology is third in Poland and 571st in the world. In total, 22 Polish universities were classified in the ranking.

The results of leading Polish universities are consistent with the latest ranking of Polish academic universities “Perspektywy” for 2023. Here, the first place ex aequo is occupied by the University of Warsaw and the Jagiellonian University, and the third is the Warsaw University of Technology.
