A seven-year-old boy and his mother found themselves overboard on a ferry from Gdynia to Karlskrona in Sweden. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk announced on Friday that an investigation into the accident that took place on Thursday in the territorial waters of Sweden was initiated. At that time, it concerned an act under Art. 155 of the Penal Code, that is in the case involuntary manslaughter.

Investigation by the Swedish Prosecutor’s Office

The Swedish prosecutor’s office is also investigating the case. “We have launched a preliminary investigation, in which the qualification of the crime is murder, but there is no suspect. The investigation is aimed at trying to explain what happened (on the ferry)” – said prosecutor Stina Brindmark from the prosecutor’s office in Karlskrona in a Friday communication.

On Thursday afternoon, a seven-year-old boy fell off the Stena Spirit ferry sailing from Gdynia to Karlskrona in Sweden, followed by a 38-year-old woman – the child’s mother. The ship turned back. A boat was launched immediately and took part in the search operation. After about an hour, the woman and the child were found and taken to a hospital in Karlskrona. Rescue services from Sweden and Poland worked on the site using ships and helicopters. On Friday, KGP spokesman Insp. Mariusz Ciarka reported that the boy and the woman had died.
