A hedgehog that decided to cross Dobrego Pasterza Street in Kraków could have found itself in big trouble – if it weren’t for the driver of a city bus who stopped the vehicle and allowed the animal to leave the road.

The Mobilis company, whose buses service, among others, line 189 in Kraków, boasted about the driver’s exemplary attitude on social media.

“It's important to help your little prickly friend when he's in danger. Our driver working at #mobiliskraków showed empathy and just such positive behavior. While doing his evening run, he noticed a hedgehog trying to wander among the cars on Dobrego Pasterza Street. Instead of rushing, the driver of line 189 chose patience and care – he stopped the bus and waited until the animal was safely off the road. Small gestures can make a big difference. Bravo!” – we read in the post.

Compliments from passengers

The video shows a hedgehog walking along the roadway of a busy street. When the bus driver sees it, he stops the vehicle, and when the animal manages to climb back onto the pavement, he continues on. The whole incident lasts just a few seconds.

A witness to the incident informed the company about the situation. “We receive this type of information about exemplary behavior from our passengers, who send compliments on our drivers. All we can do is recreate the monitoring,” said Mariusz Dziedzic, a representative of Mobilis, whom we asked for a comment.

Dziedzic stressed that the sensitivity of the drivers employed by the company “largely results from their natural empathy and concern for the welfare of animals”, but the company also promotes positive behaviours – for example through the “Adopt a Varsovian” campaign.

“As part of the campaign commissioned by ZTM Warsaw, we are carrying out special transport for the Paluchu Shelter. The dogs, together with volunteers, travel on our buses to a designated meeting place with residents of the capital who are interested in adopting them,” Dziedzic explained.
