Krzysztof Sierak, Deputy Prosecutor General of Zbigniew Ziobro, unexpectedly took the investigation away from the prosecutor who wanted to search the apartments of the police officers from the X-Files related to the death of Iwona Cygan, writes Onet. The portal reports that the prosecutor’s office wanted to charge at least one of the officers in the case of the attack on the house of the former head of the criminal department at the District Headquarters in Dąbrowa Tarnowska. The search action has been cancelled.

Prosecutor Bartosz Gorzula from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz issued an official decision at the beginning of this year to search the homes of eight police officers from the X-Files in Krakow. loss of life or serious damage to health. The officer was supposed to be a participant in the attack on the house of a retired policeman who was one of the suspects in the death of Iwona Cygan.

However, no searches were carried out. The author of the report informs that before they were carried out, the case file was requested by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Krakow. In June, the investigation from Bartosz Gorzula was unexpectedly taken away and transferred to another unit – the District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrów Wielkopolski, which works under the supervision of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Łódź. Officially – as the prosecutor’s office informed the author of the text – it is about “ensuring the greatest objectivity of the investigation.”

Illegal provocation?

The prosecutor’s office from Nowy Sącz suspected that the policemen from the X-Files were to be involved in the attack on the house of Bogusław P., the former head of the criminal department at the District Headquarters in Dąbrowa Tarnowska. According to the National Prosecutor’s Office and the X-Files dealing with the death of Iwona Cygan, he was supposed to be involved in the first investigation into the murder of a young woman.

Iwona C. was murdered on the night of August 13/14, 1998 in Łęka Szczucińska26.04 | In the investigation into the death of Iwona Cygan, who was brutally murdered 19 years ago, the prosecutor’s office has just included two other previously discontinued proceedings. Both are about the killings of men who allegedly claimed to know who killed a 17-year-old girl before they died. On Tuesday, a court in Vienna approved the extradition of the main suspect in the murder of a teenager. TVN24 Krakow

In 2017, Bogusław P.’s house was attacked twice: the first time someone threw a brick at the window of the house (broken glass lay in the room where a small child had been a moment earlier) and threw an ax at the house frame. Soon after, there was a second attack – someone detonated an improvised explosive device near the house, which exploded nails. Fortunately, no one was hurt in any of these attacks.

According to Onet’s text, the prosecutor’s office wanted to check whether the actions could have been a provocation by the X-Files officers, aimed at Bogusław P. The reporter found out unofficially that it could have been about forcing the former policeman to make moves that would have plunged him into the investigation and made the Archive’s version credible X – that he was lying about the murder of a Gypsy.

There was evidence, there was no arrest

The action of conducting a search in the policemen’s homes was to be approved – after analyzing the grounds in the files – by the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz. Then, however, Krzysztof Sierak, Deputy Prosecutor General Zbigniew Ziobro, moved the investigation from Nowy Sącz to Ostrów Wielkopolski. Why did this change happen? As Onet informed the National Prosecutor’s Office in an e-mail: “in order to ensure the greatest objectivity of the investigation.”

“Broken Code of Silence”

17-year-old Iwona Cygan from Szczucin was murdered on the night of August 13/14, 1998. Her body was found the next day by a random passer-by at the Vistula embankment in Łęka Szczucinska. An autopsy showed that the girl had been strangled, although the perpetrators had faked a sexual assault.

The perpetrators remained undetected for a long time. In 2017, the Krakow X-Files and the National Prosecutor’s Office announced that the “conspiracy of silence” had been broken, and the perpetrators would not escape punishment. The main suspect in the homicide with particular cruelty is 46-year-old Paweł K., pseudonym. “Młody Klapa”, imported on May 11 from Austria on the basis of extradition to Poland.

According to the prosecutor’s office, on August 13 and 14, 1998, Paweł K., with the help of two people, inflicted numerous blows on his victim with a hard object in Szczucin, and then took her to the vicinity of the flood embankments in Łęka Szczucińska and, brutally restraining her, led to her death. This version was undermined in a long report by Onet journalist Mateusz Baczyński.

The trial in this case is still underway in the District Court in Rzeszów behind closed doors.
