PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński arrived on Tuesday evening at the gate of the remand center in Radom, where Mariusz Kamiński, convicted by a final court verdict, is being held. Kaczyński took part in the demonstration taking place there. – Mariusz Kamiński should not receive any sentence, he should receive the highest state distinction – he argued.

From Thursday, January 11, a two-year prison sentence for abuse of power in the case of the so-called The former head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration and the Central Anticorruption Bureau, Mariusz Kamiński, is involved in the land scandal. Since that day, protests by PiS supporters have been organized every day in front of the prison. On Tuesday, the head of Law and Justice took part in the demonstration Jaroslaw Kaczynski.

– Mariusz Kamiński should not receive any sentence, he should receive the highest state distinction. Not because he is now in prison, but because he fought hard against crime in difficult times, Kaczyński said during his evening speech.

He argued that Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik (convicted in the same case, imprisoned in Przytuły Stare near Ostrołęka) must be released. – The time of disgrace of the Polish state must end – he said. He added that “those who caused this disgrace, who trample on the constitution, the law and do it cynically” should face “severe consequences” of their actions.

The rally participants chanted “we will win.” They sang the anthem and the song “God save Poland”, in which – according to Kaczyński’s suggestion – they changed the words to “Give us back the free homeland, Lord”.

On Tuesday, in front of the arrest in Radom, gathered, among others: PiS politicians: Radosław FogielMarek Suski and Stanisław Karczewski. Mariusz Kamiński’s wife was also present.

The case of Kamiński and Wąsik

On December 20, 2023, the District Court in Warsaw validly sentenced Kamiński and Wąsik to two years of imprisonment for abuse of power in connection with the so-called land scandal. Last Tuesday, the police detained both PiS politicians, and they were later sent to prison.

On Thursday, the president Andrzej Duda he announced that he had decided initiation of pardon proceedings against Kamiński and Wąsik and that he requests the Prosecutor General to suspend the execution of the sentence and release both PiS politicians from prison for the duration of the proceedings.

Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Adam Bodnar confirmed that he received a letter in this case on Friday morning and initiated proceedings. – However, at this stage, no other decisions have been made – he added.
