Bishop Krzysztof Zadarko, who related the beginning of the visit of the second group of Polish bishops to the Vatican, said that the Holy See is well-known about the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. The chairman of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki admitted that during his visit to the dicastery for secular affairs, family and life on Monday, the topic of same-sex relationships was raised during the visit.
On Monday, the traditional visit ad limina Apostolorum, i.e. to the apostolic thresholds, was started by bishops from the metropolises of Gdańsk, Szczecin-Kamień, Poznań and Wrocław. On Friday, they will meet with Pope Francis.
Auxiliary bishop of the Koszalin-Kołobrzeg diocese, Krzysztof Zadarko, reporting to journalists his visit to the dicastery for integral human development, informed that the issue of the crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border was known in the Vatican.
– We emphasized the importance of this problem, conflict and crisis, which has a political and international background – said Bishop Zadarko. – Our actions were also noticed. We were asked about the position of our Council of the Bishops’ Conference on migration and about the appeal of Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, who appealed for humanitarian corridors, for relocation and, above all, for humanitarian and medical aid – he added. – It was treated with great understanding and as an example of how to act, especially in such a complicated matter and great tension, which has not only a humanitarian dimension, but also a political and international one – informed Bishop Zadarko.
Polish bishops talked in the Vatican about same-sex relationships
The chairman of the Polish Episcopal Conference, Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, during a briefing on Vatican Radio, said, referring to Monday’s visit to the dicastery for secular affairs, family and life, that various “difficult issues” were raised during the visit. “We have to answer them,” he added. – These are issues that concern not only Poland, but also those that appear all over the world – he explained. Among them, he mentioned the issue of biotechnology and same-sex “relationship relations”. Such unions – said the metropolitan of Poznań – “can never be called marriage, although the global pressure goes in this direction and tries to popularize the concept of marriage for same-sex unions”. As Archbishop Gądecki said, one must “be aware of this pressure” and, on the other hand, “look with some calm at the changes that are taking place and which we should, however, take into account”.
