The 18th Chopin Competition begins on October 2. Pianists from all over the world will compete in three stages. 87 pianists and pianists qualified for the main competition, including 16 participants from Poland. The event will open with an inaugural concert.
From October 2 to 23, the 18th International Piano Competition Frederic Chopin. The event was divided into three stages. 87 pianists from all over the world will compete there. On the occasion of the event, the Institute prepared advertising spots in Polish and English. A special website was also created chopin2020.plwhere you can check the details of this year’s edition.
On October 2 at 20:00, the inaugural concert of the event will take place. The National Philharmonic in Warsaw will feature masterpieces by Robert Schumann, Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven. Tickets for this event have already sold out, but you will also be able to see them thanks to the applications prepared by the Institute. The first: the Chopin Competition is designed for iOS and Andorid, the second: SmartTV for Samsung TVs.
Chopin Competition 2021. Polish participants
During eliminations, which took place on July 12-23, 87 female and male pianists have been selected to take part in the main competition. These are 22 Chinese, 14 Japanese, 16 Poles, seven South Koreans, six Italians, as well as representatives of, inter alia, Armenia, Canada, Cuba, Russia, Spain, Thailand, USA and UK.
Polish participants of the Chopin Competition are: Aleksandra H. Dąbek, Joanna Goranko, Mateusz Krzyżowski, Jakub Kuszlik, Julia Łozowska, Tomasz Marut, Viet Trung Nguyen, Zuzanna Pietrzak, Aleksandra Świgut, Marcin Wieczorek, Andrzej Wierciński, Piotr Alexewicz, Adam Kałduński, Szymon Nehring , Kamil Pacholec and Piotr Pawlak.
Chopin Competition 2021 – jury
The auditions will start on October 3 and will last until October 16. The final concerts will take place from 18 to 20 October. Pianists will be judged by a jury of internationally renowned musicians, experts and educators. Polish pianists are among the 17 members of the jury, incl. Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń, Wojciech Świtała, Ewa Pobłocka and Adam Harasiewicz. Pianists will also be judged by foreign musicians: the Russian pianist Dmitri Alexeev, the Chinese pianist Sa Chen, and the German pianist Dina Yoffe.
Awards for laureates
Apart from prestige and fame, the winners of the Chopin Competition will receive awards, funded, among others, by by government representatives. The winner will receive 40 thousand euros, the second place is a prize of 30 thousand euros, the third place – 20 thousand. There is also an award funded by the President of Warsaw in the amount of EUR 7,000.
Special prizes in the amount of EUR 5,000 are also waiting for the participants, e.g. for the best performance of a sonata, mazurkas or a polonaise. The youngest finalist of the Competition will receive approximately EUR 10,000, and the best Polish pianist – EUR 5,000.
Chopin Competition 2021 – tickets
Tickets for the 18th Chopin Competition can be purchased online on the website The Fryderyk Chopin Institute. Tickets are available in the form of passes – for more performances and single tickets. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the box office on the day of the auditions, but only if there are free seats.
Competition in the times of COVID-19
Ticket buyers are required to indicate whether they are vaccinated. You will need to show a vaccination certificate before entering. Unvaccinated people will have to fill out a special health form.
