The Court of Justice of the European Union imposed on Poland a financial penalty related to the functioning of the Disciplinary Chamber. Deputy Minister of National Defense, Marcin Ociepa, said on TVN24 that “on the table” is “a compromise with the European Union”. When asked when the government’s announcements about the liquidation of the Disciplinary Chamber would be implemented, he replied: – I expect the bill to be presented at the next session of the Sejm, but this question should be addressed to the minister of justice.
The Court of Justice of the European Union announced on Wednesday that Poland – due to the fact that it did not suspend the operation of the Disciplinary Chamber of the Supreme Court – was obligated to pay penalties of EUR 1 million per day for the benefit of the European Commission.
Heat: a compromise with the EU is on the table
On Thursday, Marcin Ociepa (PiS club, OdNowa association) spoke about the penalty imposed by the CJEU on Thursday in “Rozmowa Piaseckiego” on TVN24.
– The very idea of the Disciplinary Chamber is correct, but its shape is a subject of dispute with the European Union – he assessed.
He stressed that “there is a will to compromise, within this compromise there is the will to correct this issue”. – You are all calling for a compromise with the European Union, it is on the table – he said.
Ruling politicians, including PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński, announced a few months ago that they planned to liquidate the Disciplinary Chamber. When asked why it still didn’t happen, he replied: – You are asking me as if I were the minister of justice, this is a question for the minister of justice.
– When it will be? This is a very pertinent question. The Minister of Justice may answer, said the deputy minister.
– As a member of the United Right, I expect the bill to be presented at the next session of the Sejm – he added. He declared that he would support such a bill in the Sejm.
