The Collegium Humanum case. Charges against Jacek Sutryk and Karol Karski. Political comments

The National Prosecutor's Office has brought charges against another five people in the investigation into irregularities in the activities of the Collegium Humanum university, including the president of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk and former PiS MEP Karol Karski.

Sutryk, as reported by the head of the Silesian department of the National Prosecutor's Office, Tomasz Tadla, was charged with providing a financial benefit to the former rector of Collegium Humanum for obtaining a diploma from this university, as well as using this illegally obtained document and extorting PLN 230,000.

In turn, the former MEP was charged with “corruption charges related to invoking influence in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to obtain positive opinions on the running of branches of the former Collegium Humanum university in Prague, Bratislava and Andijan, and in the case of the branch in Slovakia, positive consideration of the case regarding the issuance of an opinion.” in the field of pedagogy.

Commenting on the investigators' actions, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Michał Kołodziejczak (KO club) said that there should be “the highest penalties for those who did it and who succumbed to it.” – Even if someone is from a given camp, which is closer to us, they should be held accountable – he said in an interview with TVN24 reporter Radomir Wit. – From what we can see, this scandal affects all political circles – he added.

– If the prosecutor's office proves that someone did it, that's the point, first of all, and no one should be surprised whether someone is entered in the morning, in the evening, in one way or another. If someone does this, they most likely have a reason for it, said Kołodziejczak.

PiS senator Krzysztof Bieńkowski, referring to the charges against Sutryk, said that “the prosecutor's office apparently has some grounds to believe so, i.e. they checked certain elements that show that he probably did not attend classes or participate in these studies, but only obtained a diploma.” .

He admitted that he was also “surprised” by the allegations against Karski. – I don't know the case to comment in detail – he said. Note that the president of PiS Jarosław Kaczyński wrote a letter to the Collegium Humanum and said that “everyone involved in education should be respected, but should also do it honestly.”

– We are not able to check everything. That's why the authorities are there to investigate whether everything was done correctly, he added.

Polish 2050 MP Żaneta Cwalina-Śliwowska was asked why PiS tolerated what happened at Collegium Humanum. – It was in favor of Law and Justice. It is known that Law and Justice it conducted a wide-ranging policy of its people in various places, including municipal companies, State Treasury companies, and all kinds of institutions, so these people needed to quickly acquire qualifications, she said.

– I think this was the main reason that Collegium Humanum was such a training ground for qualifications for Law and Justice. Unfortunately, other private Polish universities that operate transparently suffer from this. Now everyone who wants to improve their qualifications actually looks at the university they choose three times, she said.
