Mueller on migrants near the Polish border

Government spokesman Piotr Mueller said that “we are dealing with the most difficult situation since the beginning of the conflict on the Polish-Belarusian border.” – In an organized manner, President Lukashenka’s regime organizes groups of people who are going to the Polish border. We can already see that there was an attempt to push through this border by force, but thanks to the actions of the Border Guard, the Polish Army and the Police, these attempts were stopped for the moment – he said.

He said that “at the moment there are between 3 and 4 thousand people at the Polish border who are in the immediate vicinity of our border”, and in Belarus at least a dozen thousand people ready to cross the Polish border.

– At the same time, our services inform that transports from Arab countries are organized all the time to Belarus, which causes a supply of people in Belarus from those countries who will ultimately try to cross the Polish border – he said.

The government spokesman said that currently the Polish borders are directly guarded by several thousand officers of the Border Guard, army and police. – In the near future, we will strengthen these forces, in particular in those places that are most exposed to attacks by people who try to cross the Polish border illegally – he announced.

Government spokesman on numerous provocations by the Belarusian services

The government spokesman said that “there are numerous provocations by the Belarusian services on the eastern border of Poland”. – Including situations such as aiming weapons at our officers, firing so-called blind shots. Of course, this officer on our side may not be fully aware of whether it will be a blind shot or a real shot, but also with situations where actual shots are already fired into the air – he added.

So – as he noted – “we expect that this type of military action may escalate on the Polish border in the near future.” – We are very afraid of that. At the same time, we inform about it, because such behavior, such provocations from the Belarusian side may appear – emphasized Mueller.

“Using a gun is the last thing we’d like to do,” he pointed out.

– As for the hybrid war scenario, which is actually implemented by the Belarusian side at the moment, it was discussed, but the information and details in this regard are specified – he added.

Mueller announced that an operational material showing “what the situation looks like from the air” is to be published today. – Yes, so that you can understand exactly what the situation looks like and how the attacks on the Polish border take place in an organized manner – he added.

He also announced that on Monday at 6.30 PM Prime Minister Morawiecki will hold a video interview with the heads of governments of Lithuania and Latvia, countries that are directly exposed to illegal actions by Belarus.

BBN head: the president is considering convening the National Security Council

The head of the National Security Bureau, Paweł Soloch, assessed that “new and increased sanctions imposed by the EU on Belarusian authorities should be introduced.”

Asked whether a meeting of the National Security Council is planned in connection with the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, he said that “the president is considering convening such a council, he has received a request from the SLD, among others”.

– The next few hours – because we are dealing in an extremely dramatic way with the developing situation, we expect that in the next few hours attacks on our borders will be repeated, such in the masses of several hundred people – and indeed the president is taking it seriously – said the head of the National Security Bureau .

Left-wing leaders Włodzimierz Czarzasty, Adrian Zandberg and Robert Biedroń appealed on Monday to President Andrzej Duda to convene the National Security Council on the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border. Czarzasty announced at a press conference that, together with Biedron and Zandberg, they asked the president to convene the meeting immediately.

Soloch on the safety of Polish soldiers serving on the border

Soloch was asked if Poland was in talks with Arab countries, from which some refugees come to Belarus. He assured that such talks were conducted. As an example, he reported that he spoke to his counterpart in Qatar on Monday morning.

As he added, the conversation “did not confirm” that arrangements had been made between Belarus and Qatar regarding the opening of new air bridges between these countries, which could be used by migrants. – It doesn’t work out. We will react if something like this happens, ”said Soloch.

At the same time, he assessed that Belarus “is changing its tactics to be more aggressive”. – These are verbal taunts at the border. We register there uniformed “green men” and non-uniformed people who act as instructors there among those who are trying to storm our border – said Soloch.

Therefore – as he explained – during the meeting between President Andrzej Duda and government representatives, the topic of procedures related to the safety of Polish soldiers serving on the border was discussed.

State of emergency

Since the spring, the number of attempts to illegally cross the Belarusian border with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland by migrants from the Middle East, Africa and other regions has increased sharply. The EU and its member states believe that this is the result of the deliberate actions of Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s regime, which instrumentally uses migrants in response to sanctions.

From September 2, due to the migratory pressure in 183 localities in the province. Podlasie and Lubelskie, adjacent to the border with Belarus, a state of emergency is in force. A dam is to be built on the border with Belarus in the first half of 2022.

When reporting on the events at the border, the media can use almost exclusively official government recordings and information. Journalists have no access to the area under the state of emergency.
