Winter weather has arrived in the Czech Republic. On Wednesday, 25 to 60 centimeters of snow fell in places, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute reported. “We ask all drivers to exercise particular caution and caution. Road conditions are difficult,” the road service appealed on Wednesday.
Branches broke under the pressure of the white snow. Firefighters carried out dozens of interventions.
Accident on the highway
Probably the most serious incident occurred on Tuesday on the D1 motorway, at the exit from the town of Humpolec towards Prague. Four trucks collided there, one driver died and two other people were injured. The police believe that the cause of the accident was the vehicle skidding. There was a 20-kilometer traffic jam there. Local authorities said the highway was closed for more than nine hours.
A truck and a bus collided in Olomouc in the eastern Czech Republic. In addition, firefighters pulled a suburban bus from the ditch. In Central Bohemia, several vehicles also ended up in a ditch near Dolní Břežany.
Frosty weather in the Czech Republic will last at least until next Wednesday, and further heavy snowfall is expected from Friday to Saturday.
