From Saturday to Sunday, security measures were tightened in the Czech Republic against a possible terrorist attack. The alert covers public places, shopping malls, means of transport and railway stations. A meeting of the National Security Council is to be convened in Prague on Monday.

According to the iDNES.cz portal, the threat is or was related to a possible attack on infrastructure, and all police officers went on terrorist alert mode for a period of 24 hours of duty. They were told to be on the lookout for any suspicious people, especially near bus and train stations.

Interior Minister Vit Rakuszan first confirmed the iDNES reports, noting that “the security forces currently have no direct information about a specific threat.” Later on the social networking site, X wrote that “the police are currently investigating attacks abroad, during which a suspect was detained.”

A meeting of the State Security Council is to be held in Prague on Monday, after which the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs promised to provide more information.

Rakuszan reported on the X platform that there is no increased risk for residents.

Before the championship

iDnes' findings show that police officers should pay more attention to shopping malls, public transport stops, both bus and tram, and bus and railway stations. The police should also pay attention to people nearby and “any unusual phenomena” in a broader context – said the portal's interlocutor.

Recently, security measures have been tightened in Czech Republic over a month ago. April 30 Ministry of the Interior reported that the government had agreed to more police officers in connection with the organization of the hockey championships in Prague and Ostrava. At that time, Rakuszan said that “preventive measures cannot be neglected, taking into account the security situation in the world.” – We are also reacting to the fact that several mass events will be held in the coming months (in the Czech Republic – ed.), he said.
