The appeals court in Prague dismissed the lawsuit by the lawyers of former Czech President Milosz Zeman. These are the words of the doctor Jamila Stehlikova, who commented on his stay in the hospital and said that he could have been there because of problems with alcohol and the delirium it caused. The court found that he did not need to apologize for his comments on the matter.

In October 2021, a doctor who was also the Minister of human rightscommenting on the fact that Zeman was then hospitalized, said that alcoholism caused him to suffer from delirium tremens, i.e. alcohol-related delirium, manifesting itself, among other things, in impaired consciousness.

She also mentioned serious brain damage and metabolic disorders caused by alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver.

Court: the doctor proved the diagnosis was true

In May, the district court in Prague found that Stehlikova had proven the truth of her diagnosis. As a doctor and psychiatric expert, she was able to assess Zeman's actual condition during hospitalization. The court also found that the president, as a public figure, must take into account that he is subject to social control. Zeman's frequent behavior towards the public and the media, his statements and vulgarity were recalled. On Thursday, the appeals court upheld the district court's judgment.

In the fall of 2021, Zeman was hospitalized twice. Doctors justified the need for hospital care with complications related to diabetes, which he had been suffering from for years. Information about the president's health condition was very sparse and for quite a long time it was issued by the presidential office, not the medical council.
