The director and actor Tadeusz Bradecki has died. He acted in Zanussi’s films

The theater director Tadeusz Bradecki, for many years associated with the Stary Theater in Krakow and the National Theater in Warsaw, died at the age of 67. The Silesian Theater, where Bradecki was the artistic director, informed about the artist’s death.

Tadeusz Bradecki was born in 1955, he graduated from the Krakow State Drama School, seven years later he was awarded the title of the director of the drama there. He completed an internship at the Laboratory Theater in Wrocław, and then an acting internship with Peter Brook.

“From the beginning of his activity he was associated with the Stary Theater in Krakow, first as an actor, then as a director, and finally as the general and artistic director of the Krakow stage. In the years 2003–2007 he was also the director of the National Theater in Warsaw. In 1998 as a teacher he joined the PWST in Krakow. He was also an individual member of the Union of Theaters of Europe “- reported Teatr Śląski im. Stanisław Wyspiański.

As it was emphasized, during the management of Tadeusz Bradecki at the Śląski Theater, “performances from prestigious European stages (the European Theater Site project) were presented as a guest, and the team from Katowice presented their titles in front of audiences of, among others, Spain, France and Hungary”.

It was recalled that on the Katowice stage of Teatr Śląski, Bradecki directed “Polterabend” (2008) based on a text by S. Mutz and two Shakespeare titles: “The Taming of the Shrew” (2009) and “All Good That Ends Well” (2010). His last performance at Teatr Śląski was “Sztuka” by Yasmina Reza na Scenie w Malarni (2017), which is still in the repertoire.

“He was a laureate of the Leon Schiller Prize and the Konrad Swinarski Prize, and a two-time Golden Yorik laureate for Shakespearean performances. He also received the Award of the Theater Critics Section of the Polish ITI UNESCO Center for popularizing Polish theater culture abroad,” we read in a statement by Teatr Śląski.

As an actor, he played with Zanussi and Konwicki

Director of over a hundred productions in Polish and foreign theaters. (e.g. in Korea, Canada, France and Austria). As an actor, he appeared in films by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Krzysztof Zanussi and Tadeusz Konwicki. Bradecki was also the author of plays such as “The Pattern of Metaphysical Evidence”, “Nocturne” and “Saragossa”.
