She was 22 years old and raised two children. According to the prosecutor’s office, an inhabitant of Piła died from blows to the head. On Wednesday, her 23-year-old partner heard the verdict. The court found him guilty of murder with possible intent and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
In the District Court in Poznań it ended the trial of Hubert K. According to the prosecutor’s office, the man, acting with a possible intention, hit his partner on the head several times. The 21-year-old died as a result of the injuries. The woman orphaned two children.
The trial took place behind closed doors – the court, at the request of the victim’s family, excluded publicity. The sentence was passed on Wednesday. The court found that K. was guilty of the charges against him. The court sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment. In addition, Hubert K. is to pay compensation: PLN 20,000 to the auxiliary prosecutor, and PLN 100,000 to the prosecutor. It is about the amount of PLN 20,000. The judgment is not final.
Two children were orphaned
The tragedy happened in May 2020 in Piła. The woman’s body was found in her apartment after her father called the emergency services. The 22-year-old’s partner was arrested on the spot. The woman lived with Hubert K. and two children at the age of three and about 1.5 months. At the time of detention, the 23-year-old was intoxicated, he had over two per mille of alcohol in his body.
Hubert K. was initially charged with causing the injuries that led to the death of the 22-year-old. He pleaded guilty and was arrested. However, the results of the autopsy showed that the woman died from numerous internal injuries. She had brain swelling, contusion of the skull on the inner surfaces, extensive subarachnoid bleeding. According to the preliminary findings of the investigators, the 22-year-old girl was beaten with a fist and with an open hand in the face, she also hit her head on the floor.
Then the investigators changed the classification of the alleged offense to the man a homicide with a possible intention. – The prosecutor’s office once again analyzed the collected evidence, which made it probable that this act should be classified under Article 148 of the Criminal Code regarding murder. Initially, a milder qualification was adopted, but the prosecutor in the further investigation concluded that this behavior had the hallmarks of homicide, said Łukasz Wawrzyniak, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań, after the change of qualification of the acts. During the proceedings, the 23-year-old did not plead guilty anymore and refused to explain.
