The convention of the Spanish Vox party, an extremely nationalist party with anti-women, homophobic and anti-EU slogans, was held in Madrid over the weekend. The guests included Marine Le Pen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and a politician considered to be Vladimir Putin's greatest friend in Europe – Viktor Orban. Law and Justice MPs also appeared and boasted about it on the Internet. Mateusz Morawiecki was not there in person, but he recorded his message for the participants. He was the only one who spoke about issues important to Europe's security.

“They want us to forget our Christian roots”, “The European Union promotes Islamism”, “Brussels encourages waves of immigration to come to Europe” – thunderous applause can be heard in Madrid when extremely anti-European and xenophobic slogans are shouted from the stage.

The meeting in Madrid is a convention of the Spanish Vox party, an extremely nationalist party with anti-women, homophobic and anti-EU slogans. The guests included ultra-right politicians, nationalists and eurosceptics from all over the continent.

The equally conservative Marine Le Pen, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Viktor Orban spoke from the stage. Law and Justice MPs were at the convention, which they boasted about on the Internet. Radosław Fogiel was sitting in the front row, near Marine Le Pen, the leader of the French National Front.

Mateusz Morawiecki recorded a video message for the convention participants, which was displayed on a large screen. – It is up to us to ensure that Europe, as the legacy we love, survives, said the former prime minister. He himself believes that the value for the European Union is the Europe of Homelands.

– What they have in common is a very strong emphasis on patriotism, even nationalism, anti-immigration, great skepticism towards the European Union in its current form – points out Małgorzata Bonikowska, president of the THINKTANK center, Center for International Relations.

It was another meeting of this type in Europe. This time, the pretext was the upcoming European Parliament elections, in which the far right wants to succeed.

– Another pro-Putin rally is taking place in Madrid and I am surprised that Mateusz Morawiecki is once again joining this group – commented Agnieszka Pomaska, MP from the Civic Coalition. – It is extreme stupidity and irresponsibility to fraternize with Putin's Trojan horses today, when there is a war in Ukraine – said Robert Biedroń, the Left's candidate in the European Parliament elections.

The meeting in Madrid sparked protests and demonstrations, also among Polish activists. What were PiS politicians doing there?

PiS has been threatening the EU for a long time and talking about an attack on Poland's sovereignty – everything that is bad is the EU's fault, even what PiS did, because the Green Deal created by the Polish commissioner on the recommendation of PiS is also to blame for the mythical Brussels.

The October 15 Coalition believes that PiS's real goal is to take Poland out of the EU. – They are on the side of those who want to destroy the European Union from the inside – commented Michał Kobosko, Third Way's candidate in the European Parliament elections. – There are only two directions: one is the European option, the other is the Moscow option – emphasized Katarzyna Lubnauer, an MP from the Civic Coalition.

One of the PiS MPs, Marcin Horała, admitted that the Polish right wing does not agree with the right wing in Western Europe on everything. One such point of contention is the war in Ukraine, and PiS politicians were supposed to convince Putin's supporters in Madrid to support Ukraine. – Without meeting them, we cannot influence them to change their minds – pointed out Marcin Horała.

Mateusz Morawiecki actually focused on the issue of security in his video message, but he was practically alone in this. None of the other far-right leaders even mentioned the need to help Ukraine, and therefore solidarity with Poland.

– PiS has chosen such a company, it feels good in it, it fits well in it, it wants to do politics together, but I am afraid that it is not a policy that will serve Europe – said Anna Maria Żukowska, the candidate of the Left in the elections to the Parliament. European.
