The father of the Hamas hostage released on Saturday, 21-year-old Almog Meir Jan, died a few hours before the news that his son was returning home, the Times of Israel website reported on Sunday.

– My brother died of grief and could not see his son return. The night before Almog's return, his heart stopped, Dina Jan, Almog's aunt, told the Times of Israel.

– Yossi, my brother and Almog's father, was glued to the TV for eight whole months, absorbing every piece of information. He loved Almog so much, cared about him so much, wanted to know what was happening to him and what he was going through, she added.

He lost 20 kilograms

The woman said that after the 21-year-old was kidnapped, his father “lost 20 kilograms, closed himself off and did not want to see anyone.” She also said that on Saturday she received a call from the army, which informed her about the release of her nephew and asked her to pass on the information to her father, who no one could reach by phone.

– I drove like crazy to give him (father) the information, I knocked on the door, but he didn't answer. However, it wasn't closed, so I went in. I saw him lying on the bed, I screamed, but he didn't answer, he was already dead, she admitted with regret.

The 57-year-old will be buried on Sunday.
