“Flood risk reduction program in the Nysa Kłodzka catchment”, which on Wednesday was presented in Wrocław to local government officials from the areas affected by last year's flood, includes six different variants, including the construction of dry retention reservoirs in the Kłodzko Valley. “Depending on the chosen variant, to build tanks you will need a resettlement of 150 to 240 people,” said prof. Zaleski.
The presentation of the program begins public consultations, which are to select a variant intended for implementation. According to Polish waters, depending on the variant, to build tanks in the white Lądecka catchment, you will need to resettle from 150 to 240 people.
“The flood risk reduction program in the Nysa Kłodzka catchment” was developed by the Polish Water Water Farm under the leadership of prof. Janusz Zaleski, director of the flood protection project in the Odra and Wisła basin. Last Friday, the main assumptions of the program were accepted by a team of resistance experts after the flood operating in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

Plenipotentiary for reconstruction after the flood Marcin Kierwiński During a meeting with local government officials in the Lower Silesian Voivodship Office, he emphasized that the flood risk reduction program in the Nysa Kłodzka catchment will be broadly public consultation. “We know how great the expectations of this project are when it comes to reducing flood risk; This project meets these expectations, but it is not a universal project that will guarantee that there will be no flood – it does not eliminate to zero risk, “said Kierwiński, emphasizing that it is impossible to create a program that would completely reduce the risk of flood. “We offer a system of significant reducing flood threat,” said the minister.
He added that the flood risk reduction program in the Nysa Kłodzka catchment will certainly evoke social emotions. “We are clearly saying that the scale of possible interference in ownership issues of residents must be minimal. Where the redemption is necessary, we will propose such a system to make these bodies voluntary” – he said
Six variants
Kierwiński announced that the program contains six variants, with the authors of the program indicate one of them as optimal. “The program comprehensively affects the system of changes of the flood warning, the issue of urban adaptation, the issue of the preparation of buildings for water resistance, and in its nucleus, i.e. the system of tanks – contains six variants” – said Kierwiński, adding that none of these variants will be “pushed by force” . “We want to build a wide consensus for this program, we want to adapt variants to social expectations,” he said.
Prof. Janusz Zaleski in an interview with journalists emphasized that without building dry retention reservoirs systems, flood waters cannot be stopped. One of the six variants regarding the Biała Lądecka basin, assumes the construction of tanks in the towns of Goszów, Bolesławów and Statójków, as well as the launch of the Rudawka polder and renovation of the tank in Storń Śląskie.
You will need to resettle the inhabitants
“Depending on the chosen variant, to build tanks you will need a resettlement of 150 to 240 people,” said prof. Zaleski.
The program consists of five components – infrastructure activities in the Nysa Kłodzka basin, a flood risk reduction in the Biała Lądecka catchment and more broadly in the Nysa Kłodzka catchment, expanding the cascade of tanks in Nysa Kłodzka, as well as reducing flood risk below Bardo.
