On Friday evening, around 8.30 p.m., a flying object flew into Polish airspace near Białowieża from Belarus. All procedures applicable in such cases have been launched – Captain Ewa Złotnicka, press officer of the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, told TVN24. Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration, Błażej Poboży, said that this was the second such incident “in the last few hours”. He added that the first object was “taken away from Poland on radars”.

Ministry of National Defence informed on Saturday at 8.24 am on Twitter that “The Air Operations Center noted the appearance in Polish airspace of an object that flew from the direction of Belarus“. “According to COP information, it is probably an observation balloon. Radar contact was lost near Rypin, the ministry added.

MiG-29 picked up, then F-16

In an interview with TVN24, Captain Ewa Złotnicka, press officer of the Operational Command of the Armed Forces Branches, said that “on Friday, May 12, around 8:30 p.m., a flying object flew into Polish airspace near Białowieża.” – It was observed while still in the airspace of Belarus. After crossing the border, radar monitoring was carried out, she added.

The press officer added that “when the object appeared in Polish airspace, all procedures applicable in such cases were launched.” – The MiG-29 duty pair was picked up, then the F-16 – she said.

The object “ceased to be visible” near Rypin

Half an hour after midnight on the night from Friday to Saturday, this object was no longer visible by our reconnaissance means, Złotnicka said.

It took place in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship near the town of Rypin.

At 5 am, the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces Branches began activating the forces that can be used to search for the object, the spokeswoman said.

Searches are underwayinvolving a helicopter, a drone and ground groups from the Territorial Defense Forces.

Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration, Błażej Poboży, asked in an interview with TVN24 about the object that flew into Polish airspace, said: – at this stage, I can only confirm the incident that has been recorded.

– The second one in the last few hours. Probably of a similar nature. While the first one was, one can say, carried outside the Polish border on radars, the one, according to the reports we have, in the vicinity of the town (Rypin-ed.) was lost from radars – he said.
