On Wednesday in New York, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau will meet with the head of Russian diplomacy Sergey Lavrov, the spokesman of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs Łukasz Jasina confirmed in an interview with a TVN correspondent.
– On January 1, 2022, Poland takes over the presidency of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. And this is the only and fundamental reason for the meeting of the two ministers – to talk about the Polish presidency, about cooperation within this presidency. After all, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe is an organization uniting Russia, European Union countries, Canada and the United States, said Łukasz Jasina.
When asked who initiated the meeting, the spokesman of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs replied that “both parties came to the conclusion that such a meeting would have a good meaning on the margins of the general debate.”
The meeting of Zbigniew Rau and Sergey Lavrov will be the first meeting of the heads of the ministries of foreign affairs of Poland and Russia since 2019. It is to happen on Wednesday at 19 (1 hour Polish time), is to last 20 minutes.
Minister Rau has been in New York since Monday, attending the UN General Assembly. He has already met, among others with the head of the Australian Foreign Ministry.
