The trial of Marcin Z., a former policeman suspected of the brutal murder of a 53-year-old construction worker to whom he owed money for a service, began in the District Court in Warsaw.

The crime took place at the beginning of June last year. In the evening, 53-year-old Marek D. went to Warsaw to meet a client who allegedly owed him PLN 25,000. PLN for plastering works. When he did not return home, the family began a search.

The man's daughter, thanks to the car application, discovered on the same day that her father's car stopped at a chapel in Pilawa in the Garwolin district and went there with her boyfriend. However, she found only an unlocked, empty car with the keys inside, so she immediately notified the police. The 53-year-old was reported missing and his description was posted on police websites.

Shortly afterwards, thanks to the car's navigation, it was possible to recreate the route the man had taken. In this way, it was determined where the 53-year-old met with a customer who was delaying payment. It was the town of Solec (Piaseczno County).

Officers went to the scene. It turned out to be an unfinished house there. Inside, foil was found covering the dismembered body of a 53-year-old man.

The suspect is a retired policeman

A 45-year-old retired policeman, Marek Z., was detained, and the case was handled by the District Prosecutor's Office in Wołomin. The man was arrested and charged with murder. According to the investigators, he was about to kill him because he wanted to avoid paying the invoice.

The findings of the prosecutor's office also show that he did it by first hitting Marek D. in the head, and when he fell unconscious on the concrete floor, he used a metal hand saw and an ax to dismember his body.

Marcin Z. pleads not guilty. He allegedly explained to investigators that it was an unfortunate accident, and after an argument, Marek D. fell and stopped breathing. Then the perpetrator decided to get rid of the body.

He faces life imprisonment.

“Dad always called back quickly”

The indictment in this case was sent to the District Court in Warsaw at the end of November last year, and the first hearing took place on Monday. The panel of judges is chaired by Judge Maciej Gruszczyński. During the trial, testimonies included, among others: wife and daughter of the killed man.

The wife of the murdered man emphasized in court that on the day her husband died, Marcin Z. called him to settle accounts. – My husband was happy and went to the meeting. They were supposed to meet at 7.30 p.m. Approximately 9:30 p.m. I started to get nervous why he wasn't there. The phone was turned off, which my husband never did (…) I called my daughter. She checked using the locator that her husband's phone lost connection to the Internet around 7:50 p.m. – she said in the courtroom.

She said that she and her daughter entered the application and checked where her husband's car was, after which the girl went to the location and found an empty vehicle.

In turn, the daughter of the killed man emphasized that the fact that her father's phone was silent “was incomprehensible.” – Dad always called back quickly, she said in the courtroom.

The next hearing date was set for March 13.
