The former rector of the former Collegium Humanum (today Varsovia University of Business and Applied Sciences), PaweÅ‚ C., left the pretrial detention in Katowice and returned home to Warsaw – Newsweek learned. C. is a suspect in a multi-threaded scandal involving, among other things, issuing diplomas for money.

Ryszard Kalisz, the attorney representing Paweł C., confirmed to Newsweek that he had been released from custody. The lawyer said that the prosecutor's office had lifted the provisional arrest of the former rector of Collegium Humanum. He will have to appear at the prosecutor's office when the date of his hearing is set. As the attorney further explained, the prosecutor's office is at the stage of preparatory proceedings, which means that it can change preventive measures at any time.

We tried to contact Ryszard Kalisz and his law firm regarding this matter. However, we were not able to do this until the article was published.

Money for diplomas

Paweł C. had been staying in the temporary rest facility in Katowice since February. We informed then that investigators accused him of several dozen crimes, and he was also charged then. The arrests in this case were earlier made by CBA agents in Warsaw. In connection with his performance of the public function of rector of a private university the prosecutor accused him of committing crimes consisting primarily of accepting financial benefits in exchange for issuing false documents in the form of postgraduate studies certificates, as well as committing crimes of abuse of the relationship of professional dependence and causing other people to have sexual intercourse or undergo other sexual activities, as well as making threats against witnesses in order to influence on their testimony in the case.

The remaining detainees were also accused of participating in an organized criminal group founded and led by Paweł Cz. and committing, together with him, crimes related to accepting financial benefits in exchange for issuing false documents confirming the completion of postgraduate studies.

In March, the spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General, Anna Adamiak, said that C. had not exercised his right to refuse to provide explanations, he had provided explanations and cooperated with the prosecutor's office.

Not only politicians and their families, but also athletes, celebrities and scientists were to apply to PaweÅ‚ C. for MBA diplomas, doctorates and habilitation. – There are talks about several hundred diplomas – informed Anna Adamiak.

32 people associated with Collegium Humanum were charged. The prosecutor's office talks about an organized criminal group led by the rector. – And this criminal group issued postgraduate diplomas when people neither met the criteria, did not participate in classes, and did not pass the required exam – described the prosecutor's spokeswoman at the time.

More detentions and a difficult situation for students

On Thursday we informed about arrest of another person in the Collegium Humanum case. Prosecutor Katarzyna Calów-Jaszewska from the press office of the National Prosecutor's Office confirmed that it was Marian Dymalski, chairman of the supervisory board of the Wrocław airport. The detainee was then transported to the local department of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice

Earlier on Thursday, CBA detained the president of Wrocław, Jacek Sutryk, in this case. He was also transported to the Katowice branch of the PK, where he was charged in an investigation into irregularities at the former Collegium Humanum university.

Their problems have been ongoing since spring this year, when the CBA entered the university's headquarters in Warsaw. They are waiting for the defense of their diploma theses or the entry of outstanding grades. Some of them decided to do so file a class action lawsuit against the university. They talk about wasted time and money.
