It is worth looking at the sky at the weekend, because the pink moon will shine on it. The first spring fullness of this year is ahead of us. Other names of this phenomenon are the fullness of germinating grass, full egg and full fish.

The culmination of the April full moon, called the pink moon, will take place from Saturday to Sunday at 2.22 Polish time. This will be the first spring fullness of this year. This is an important astronomical phenomenon, because the date of Easter is determined on its basis.

Easter is movable and falls on the first Sunday after the first spring full moon. This means that it must appear in the calendar between March 22 and April 25. Since this year's first full moon will take place on April 13, the holidays fall on April 20.

The names of individual full moon used to this day mainly derive from beliefs, customs and observations of indigenous Americans. The full moon in April is called pink, because in the spring North America is covered with pink phloxes. Other names of this full are the fullness of germinating grass, full egg and full fish.

Full moon – how this phenomenon arises

Fullness is one of the four phases of the moon. It comes to it when our natural satellite is in opposition to the sun, i.e. on the opposite side of the earth than our star. During the full moon shield is visible in full, fully illuminated by sunlight. At the same time, the other side is not illuminated at all. The fullness occurs on average every 29.5 days.
