I treat it only as a demonstration, and a very serious political demonstration, said Paweł Zalewski from Poland 2050 in “Fakty po Faktach”, commenting on the presentation of a report on Polish war losses by Deputy Prime Minister Piotr Gliński to the German president. It happened on the day of the celebration of the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. – If anyone in the government thinks that with such a gesture he has strengthened rather than weakened Poland’s arguments, he is simply mistaken – said Adrian Zandberg from the Together party.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Culture and National Heritage Piotr Glinski handed over to the president German Frank-Walter Steinmeier the full version of the report on Polish losses as a result of the German occupation during World War II, the ministry announced on Wednesday. This happened on the day of the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, when Steinmeier was in Poland.

This gesture was commented on in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 by the co-chairs of the Together party, MP Adrian Zandberg and Paweł Zalewski from Poland 2050.

Zalewski on “an initiative that has a party and political character”

According to Zalewski, “there was no need” because “there are other procedures for that.” “So I treat it only as a demonstration and a very serious political demonstration at that,” he said.

– I think that such issues are dealt with in a different way and there was no reason to hand over these documents a second time, regardless of what we think about the legitimacy (of reparations – editorial note). Because I do agree that Germany did not fully fulfill its obligations, which were caused by war losses – he continued.

The Polish 2050 politician stressed, however, that “we should not use this type of celebration for an initiative that is of a party-political nature.”

“The point is to give the Poles a signal that the European Union and Germany are the enemy”

He was also asked about the resolution adopted on Tuesday by the government on the need to regulate the issue of reparations in Polish-German relations.

“This is a very dangerous issue,” he said, adding that it was not just about reparations. – This is about something completely different, it’s about giving the Poles a signal that European Union and in it the Germans are really our enemy. Which is madness, given the situation we’re in,’ Zalewski said.

He pointed out that “Poland is on the border of two international systems – the democratic western and the autocratic eastern, we have a war on the border and any change in this situation, this order must consequently have a negative impact on us.”

– Such a situation means that we should look for an alliance and allies in the West, where they really are, that is in the European Union and Germany – he added.

Zandberg: It was a very frivolous political gesture

Zandberg assessed that “it was a very frivolous political gesture.” “If anyone in the government thinks that he has strengthened, not weakened, Poland’s arguments with such a gesture, he is simply mistaken,” he added.

In his opinion, “at the end of the day, people are interested in efficiency.” – People will ask themselves: did the government keep its word and get something done, or did it turn out to be incompetent in another case? he argued. – Because this is something that the government has been trying to do for the last year and a half Mateusz Morawiecki got used to. It means that he fails further matters, that he announces something very spectacularly, very boldly, and then it turns out that nothing comes out of it – he added.

Zalewski: the gesture that was supposed to solve the problem of Ukrainian grain also had anti-EU overtones

The guests of “Fakty po Faktach” also commented on the government’s actions regarding Ukrainian grain, which flows into the country in large quantities. On Saturday, the government accepted regulation on the ban on imports of agricultural and food products from Ukraineand then decided that transit will resume on April 21 at midnight, i.e. on the night from Thursday to Friday.

Commenting on the closure of the border for transit, Zalewski said that “this decision was unilateral, and it did not have to be.”

– The government had over a year to talk with the European Union to solve this issue in full accordance with the law and also the law of the European Union, because the issue of trade policy is the competence of the European Union – he noted. – The government did not use this time at all, and then, with a gesture, pretended to close a topic that it did not solve at all – added the Polish 2050 politician. , also had an anti-EU undertone.

Zandberg: The only solution is a common European solution

MP Razem pointed out that “a huge amount of this Ukrainian so-called technical grain entered Poland and is already in Poland.” – Any actions taken at the border at the moment – whether in line with or against EU pragmatics – will not change the fact that this grain is already here in Poland. This is a problem that the government has to solve here, he added.

– We on the Left believe that the only realistic solution is one that is a common European solution, in which we will also involve our partners – he said. In his opinion, “today we have a situation in which this problem of grain accumulated in Poland must be solved together, Poland alone will not solve it.”
