After 19 days of searching, the body of an eight-year-old girl was found in a stream near a village in southeastern Turkey. Twenty-four people, including her parents, older brothers and uncles, were arrested in connection with her death. The case has sparked outrage in Turkish public opinion.

Eight-year-old Narin Guran disappeared on August 21 after leaving home for a Koran class. For 19 days, thousands of people participated in the search for the girl, and her story is being covered by the national media.

The girl's body was found on Sunday in a stream near the village where she lived in Diyarbakir province.

– After the missing Narin Guran was murdered, she was put in a bag and taken to a stream. She was covered with branches and stones so as not to arouse suspicion, said the governor of Diyarbakir province, Murat Zorluoglu.

24 people were detained, including parents.

In connection with the girl's death, 24 people were detained, including her parents, older brothers, uncles, the Duvar portal reported. The detained relatives did not attend Narin's funeral on Monday.

On September 2, one of the uncles, who is also the village head (mukhtar), was arrested in connection with the child's disappearance. According to investigators, DNA from his car matched DNA from the child's clothing.

The cause of the eight-year-old's death is expected to be determined in at least 15 days.
