After a landslide, part of the highway in the city of Bellingham in the US state of Washington was blocked. Two cars got stuck on the road, but no one was hurt, the services reported.
Heavy rainfall hit Washington state over the weekend, leading to local floods and landslides. In the Bellingham area, on Sunday morning local time, mounds of earth and rocks slid onto Interstate 5. Its northern part was blocked and southbound traffic was limited to one lane, local media reported.
According to the services, as a result of the landslide, a passenger car and a truck with a semi-trailer got stuck on the road. No one was injured.
It is not known yet when traffic on the motorway will be fully resumed.
“Flooding throughout the city”
“The amount of rain that fell this weekend caused flooding on roads across the city. Please be especially careful if you have to drive today,” the local police wrote on social media.
The Bellingham airport recorded rainfall of more than 50 liters per square meter on Sunday, making it the city's second wettest October day on record, the National Weather Service (NWS) reported. The record date in this respect remains October 16 in 2003.
