Ice broke under a man in Wisconsin, USA. According to the local police, the 61-year-old drove a light off-road vehicle onto the frozen surface of the lake. Despite the quick reaction of rescuers, they could not save him.

According to police in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, rescuers received a call to Lake Pewaukee shortly after 3 p.m. local time. According to people reporting the accident, the ice suddenly broke under a light off-road vehicle driving on a frozen surface.

“No ice is safe”

Initially, witnesses tried to help the driver, but for safety, the recorder asked them to move away from the cracked ice. When rescuers arrived at the lake, neither the driver nor the vehicle were visible. Divers sprung into action.

Before 4 p.m. local time, a man who had spent more than half an hour in the icy water was found. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed and he was transported to hospital, but the 61-year-old's life could not be saved.

– Even at extremely low temperatures, the ice can be unstable, and if someone decides to be on the lake, they should be careful – warned rescuers. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources also reminded that “no ice is safe.”
