The influenza epidemic is underway, over a thousand people have already died. The situation with drugs in pharmacies began to improve

– An epidemic wave is underway – says Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski, chief sanitary inspector. – This number of cases from the beginning of the season can even reach about two million – he adds.

The flu this season has broken down in Poland. At least a thousand people have died so far, 23,000 have been sick in hospitals, and over two million recipe for medicines for treatment at home.

– Even if 10 packages enter the pharmacy, there are no more in a moment – admits Łukasz Konka from the District Pharmaceutical Council in Łódź. Compared to last year, the sale of these drugs is higher by over 330 percent.

– If several hundred percent of people suddenly want to use such a medicine, it is obvious that it must take a while before we secure this text back, but it has already become partly and partly happens – notes the Minister of Health from the Civic Coalition Izabela Leszczyna.

There is a lack of flu drugs in pharmacies. Intercity drug tourism developed. – Today we are observing a slight improvement. Indeed, these doses, especially for adults, are available in pharmacies, perhaps not to the extent as we expected. We have a further problem with pediatric doses – indicates Marcin Repelewicz from the Lower Silesian Pharmaceutical Chamber in Wrocław.

Pharmacists deal with this problem. – To help small patients, in our pharmacies, we crumble powders, i.e. we make high doses prescription drugs – explains Magdalena Horba, a pharmacist from the Gemini pharmacy in Bialystok.

By the end of the week, delivery will achieve over half a million packages.

– At the end of the week we will be able to talk about a significant improvement in accessibility and at this point we will be secured, at least for a monthly period of such extraordinary sales – says Łukasz Pietrzak, chief pharmaceutical inspector.

Influenza outclassed other viruses in Poland. In the last week, over 150,000 people had it, while on RSV – 13,000, on Covid – 4,000, and on the pouring – less than half a thousand.

– We see a favorable downward trend. If this trend persists, we will be able to talk about the withdrawal of the influenza wave – comments Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski.

This is slowly seen in hospitals. – The number of patients in serious condition, with exacerbated chronic diseases, has dropped significantly, and in fact these mileage is now lighter – indicates Dawid Kacprzyk, deputy head of the hospital emergency department at the Southern Hospital in Warsaw.

These cases could not be at all. – However, vaccination is the best way. The reimbursement this year is extremely good – notes prof. Joanna Zajkowska from the Clinic of Infectious Diseases and Neuroinfeight of the University Clinical Hospital in Bialystok.

For free for the elders and for half the price for the rest. You don't even have to go to the clinic – from Friday everything can be arranged at the pharmacy. Only 5 percent of all are vaccinated for flu in Poland. Among older people, over the age of 65, is not much better – 11 percent.
