Israel Defense Forces have launched a “limited” ground operation in southern Lebanon. Dariusz Barski was not allowed to enter the building of the National Prosecutor's Office. In turn, the former Chief Commander of Police, General JarosÅ‚aw Szymczyk, was charged in the investigation into the grenade launcher explosion. Here are six things to know on Tuesday, October 1.
1. Israel launched a ground operation in Lebanon
The Israeli Defense Forces said in a statement issued on Monday night that a “limited” ground operation had been launched in southern Lebanon. As reported, the targets are located in border villages and pose a direct threat to towns in the north of Israel.
The ground operations were undertaken following the decision of Israel's political leadership and will be carried out in parallel with the fighting in the Gaza Strip and on other fronts. Israel's security cabinet approved on Monday evening the “next phase” of Operation Northern Shots in Lebanon.

2. Barski not allowed into the building of the National Prosecutor's Office
Dariusz Barski showed up in front of the headquarters of the National Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw at Postępu Street, but he was not allowed inside.
According to him, he continues to be the national prosecutor and should therefore be allowed to perform his duties. Chancellery of the President announced that she would receive Barski at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday Andrzej Duda.

3. The former police chief was charged
Former Chief Police Commander General Jarosław Szymczyk was charged on Monday with two charges in the investigation into the explosion of a grenade launcher in his office in December 2022.
The investigation into this case was initiated in March this year and concerns “failure to fulfill obligations due to failure to check the grenade launcher for sappers and possession of a firearm without the required permit.” In the course of these proceedings, investigators will determine why no evacuation was ordered in the Police Headquarters building.
4. The Presidential Palace comments on the case of the loud party
President Andrzej Duda's participation in the former president's birthday party Czech Milosz Zeman causes mixed reactions among Polish politicians.
The head of the Presidential Office of International Policy, Mieszko Pawlak, commented on the matter. He explained that the party was private and the group of guests was wide and diverse.
5. The killed Hamas commander was an employee of a UN agency
The leader of Hamas in Lebanon, Fatah Sharif Abu al-Amin, who was killed in Israel's air attack on Monday, was an employee of the UN aid agency UNRWA, an agency representative said.
Since March, al-Amin has been suspended from his official duties. UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini claims he did not know that al-Amin was a Hamas commander in Lebanon. The Israeli diplomatic mission in Geneva said al-Amin was also the head of the UNRWA teachers' union in Lebanon.
6. Szczęsny passed medical tests in Barcelona
