Robert Biedroń, co-chairman of the New Left, said in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 that Prime Minister Donald Tusk “lacks determination” when it comes to pushing through the laws on abortion and civil partnerships in the ruling coalition. According to the MEP, the head of the government, by not disciplining ministers who oppose these changes, is “giving permission for them”.
Robert Biedroń, MEP and co-chairman of the New Left, spoke in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 about the issues that divide the government coalition, including abortion and civil partnerships.
He talked about this in the context of the participation of the Left's candidate in the presidential elections, Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Magdalena Biejat. He assured that he was “determined” to change the law in this regard.
Biedroń: Tusk lacks determination
– We have submitted a bill, our MPs are keeping an eye on these issues. To be honest, I think there is a lack of determination Donald Tusk in this matter – he said.
– If Donald Tusk is determined to suspend the right to asylum, suspend international law when it comes to the prime minister's war criminal Israel (Benjamin) Netanyahuand is not determined and is not able to push through civil unions or abortion among his coalition partners, then something is wrong in this coalition – he added.
Biedroń: Tusk allows this
At the same time, the MEP assured that “this is not an accusation.” – It's a matter of agency. Donald Tusk has taken responsibility for this coalition and is able to force things from this coalition that go beyond rule of law issues, with certain standards human rights and so on, and it is not able to take responsibility for things that strengthen these human rights, such as women's rights, such as minority rights, and I am really surprised by this – the TVN24 guest continued.
The co-chairman of the New Left added that the prime minister “was able to discipline his ministers in a circular manner by adopting an absurd declaration regarding the suspension of issues related to the implementation of the judgments of the International Criminal Court, but he is unable to discipline his ministers when it comes to civil partnerships.” When asked why he thought the head of government was unable to do this, Bideroń replied: – In my opinion, it's because he gives permission for it.
Biedroń on Zandberg's start: verification will come sooner than we think
Biedroń also referred to the declaration of the co-chair of the Razem party, Adrian Zandberg, who announced that he intended to run in the presidential elections.
– I wouldn't bet today whether Adrian Zandberg will collect enough signatures, he needs to collect over 100,000 – he said. – This is not an easy job and you need organizational resources, you also need some finances and people who will collect it. And I'm afraid that this verification will come sooner than we think, he continued.
The MEP added that collecting signatures would be Zandberg's “first test” in his fight for the presidency.
Biedroń: Biejat will be the dark horse of these elections
Speaking about the Left's candidate for president, Biedroń said that Magdalena Biejat will be the “dark horse of these elections.” He assessed that “it will achieve a good result because it is authentic.”
When asked what result of this candidate would be a success for the Left, he replied: – You have to ask Magdalena Biejat, I don't want to raise the bar for her here, because I know that it is also very stressful.
– I think that any result that is close to the (poll – editor's) result of the Left, and does not allow it to take away our electorate, which unfortunately sometimes happened in the presidential elections, will be a good result for Magdalena Biejat – he said.
