The stud in Janów Podlaski asks for more public money – “Rzeczpospolita” writes on Wednesday. It is unofficially known that it may again be around PLN 7 million. – It is a symbol of PiS’s ineffectiveness – comments the opposition.
7.4 million PLN – this is the amount that the Janów Podlaski Stud was recapitalized in January by the National Center for Agricultural Support. Nevertheless, according to the newspaper, it expects one more injection of public money and has applied to KOWR for another capital injection, which is confirmed by “Rzeczpospolita”, acting president of the company Lucjan Cichosz.
The Janów Podlaski Stud needs money
“The amount is not specified, but unofficially it is known that it may again be around PLN 7 million,” reports Rzeczpospolita. – Janów has become a symbol of PiS’s ineptitude, and each subsequent year confirms it – comments KO MP Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska in an interview with the newspaper, pointing out that just a few years ago the stud did not require additional capital.
The newspaper reminds that breeding has existed since 1817, and it experienced a period of success in the second half of the 20th century, when it was managed by Andrzej Krzyształowicz. Since 2000, the stud’s president was Marek Trela, a pupil of Krzyształowicz. During his presidency, in 2015, the record-breaking Pride of Poland auction took place, during which horses were sold for nearly EUR 4 million.
Kluzik-Rostkowska estimates that the reason for the current deterioration of the situation was the dismissal of Trela in 2016 from the Agricultural Property Agency, later transformed into KOWR. He notices that the staff carousel has started at the stud, the company started to record losses and, for example, ended 2020 with a result of PLN 3.53 million in the red.
The Ministry of Agriculture explained that the reason for the bad results is, among others, drought, because the company also runs agricultural activities, and the global decline in demand for Arabian horses. – There have also been droughts earlier – Alina Sobieszak from the trade “Araby Magazine” tells the newspaper. – The truth is more brutal. Due to management errors, there were no sales successes, and instead there was an overproduction of horses – he adds.
The newspaper reminds that in 2019 the inspection of the KOWR showed that the cows bred at the stud are in “dramatically poor sanitary and hygienic and nutritional conditions”, and in 2020 “Rzeczpospolita” alerted about the poor conditions in which horses are kept. This was confirmed by the inspection of the chief veterinarian, who in a note to the minister wrote about “unbroken hooves” and “musty hay”. A few months later, KOWR decided to make the first recapitalization, which went to the development of the cattle breeding base.
– The funds obtained so far are used in accordance with the material and financial plan developed in relation to the received capital injection. Some investments are still in progress, while two have already been fully completed, informs the Lucjan Cichosz newspaper.
