Warsaw, like a large part of Poland, is struggling with the effects of the night storms that passed through our country. As we describedthe police appealed to drivers to leave their cars at home and use public transport. “Currently, the S-8 route from the Zielonka Junction to Połczyńska Street has been closed to traffic. Police officers are still helping all those who suffered as a result of the downpour and need immediate help,” it was written on profile of the Warsaw Police on the X platform.
The Last Generation protest took place on the flooded S8 route
Around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, media began reporting that representatives of the Last Generation had appeared on the flooded section of the S8. The activists held posters promoting their group while standing knee-deep in water.
“The government is pushing us towards a climate collapse. We demand that all funds be shifted from the expansion of motorways and expressways to public transport,” wrote activists. on platform X. In the next one entry They added that “rising temperatures mean a growing risk of extreme weather events, alternating droughts and increasingly violent and frequent storms will only get worse” and shared our text on this topic.
This was another action by activists of the Last Generation this summer in the Polish capital. As we have already informedjust at the beginning of August, activists glued themselves to the road and blocked Taylor Swift's arrival before her concert at the National Stadium. The Last Generation then sprinkled the entrance to the venue with orange powder and protested with banners reading: 'We can't afford the super rich.'
Warsaw struggles with the effects of heavy rain. Traffic disruptions
Heavy rain caused some traffic routes in Warsaw to flood, which required detours for buses. Public Transport Authority spokesman Tomasz Kunert told Polskie Radio that it primarily concerns two places – the flooded tunnel in Cierlicka Street and Trasa Toruńska, which is a section of the S8 expressway in Warsaw.
– On the Toruńska Route, the section between Słowackiego Street and Wisłostrada is impassable. Buses of lines 112, 156, 186, 132, 134, 326, 414, 518, 705 and 735 run there. Buses pass the Vistula Bridge, but they avoid this closed section – commented Tomasz Kunert. The disruptions on the S8 route may last for several more hours.
