The so-called Beaver Moon will illuminate the night sky today. This will be the last super full moon of the year. This weekend we will also have a special night of shooting stars.

Friday's full moon will end the series of four super full moons that we have seen in recent months. In August, the night sky was illuminated by the Grain Moon, in September by the Harvest Moon, and in October by the Hunter's Moon (it was the largest full moon in 2024).

On Friday evening, the sky will be dominated by the so-called The Beaver Moon, also called the Winter Moon. A super full moon is a wonderful spectacle – the Moon appears larger and brighter than during a regular full moon. The maximum of this lunar phase will occur at 22.29.

The Leonids will appear

The coming weekend will also bring another unique event. On the night from Sunday to Monday, the Leonids – the fastest known meteor shower – will fly across the sky. Each year, their greatest activity falls between November 17 and 18.

Although the brightness of the Moon may worsen observation conditions, experts say that we will be able to see about five shooting stars in the sky every hour. In ideal conditions, you can see up to three times more of them.
