184 centimeters. This is the current level of the Vistula in Warsaw. The spokesman for the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management predicts that today the water level will rise to 185, and then start to fall, to reach the so-called low water zone on Tuesday evening. That is, below 105 centimeters.
On Wednesday, September 18, at 11:20 a.m. the level of the Vistula River in Warsaw was 58 centimetres. On Thursday, September 19, after 8 a.m. it was already 130 centimeters. Today after 8 a.m. the level was 184 centimeters.
– We have the culmination. We predict that it will increase by another centimetre today, and then it will decrease – says Grzegorz Walijewski, spokesman for the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management.
It's a long way to the alarm state
The alarm level, which is 650 centimeters on the Vistula Boulevards, is therefore very far away. Warsaw is not at risk of flooding.
– We are currently in the so-called middle water zone. If this level were to remain throughout the year, it would be ideal. It ensures comfort and safety for navigation. Unfortunately, a situation in which we can talk about the middle water zone has only occurred five times this year – the spokesman emphasizes.
In September, a record for the lowest measurement was broken
Let us recall that at the beginning of the month, the Vistula River in Warsaw reached its lowest levels in the history of measurements. On September 7, the water meter at the Warsaw-Bulwary hydrological station showed 26 centimeters, which was equal to the record from 2015. On September 10, the water gauge showed 20 centimeters. This was the lowest reading in the modern history of measurements in this place, i.e. since 1951.
– After today's peak, the water level will drop and next Tuesday evening it will drop back to the low zone – the spokesman emphasizes.

It has to be below 105 centimeters
He adds that of course it will not be a drop to the record level of 20 centimeters.
– The upper limit of the low water zone is the level of 105 centimeters. Then from 105 to 260 centimeters is the middle water zone, and above 260 – the high water zone – says Walijewski.
