The Lockheed Martin arms company has offered Poland the production of GMLRS missiles for HIMARS missile artillery systems, Defense News reported on Tuesday, citing a company representative. According to the company itself, it is conducting talks regarding the production of these missiles by the Polish Mesko plant.

As a representative of the American company told Defense News, the company plans to produce two variants of GMLRS missiles at Mesko's plants for the needs of the Polish armed forces.

– Initial production, probably from kits shipped with USAcould start in 2026, said a Lockheed spokesman.

Will Poland produce GMLRS missiles?

The portal notes that despite being signed in September 2023 by the then Minister of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak framework agreement for the purchase of up to 486 HIMARS launchers, the final agreement has not yet been signed.

When signing the agreement, Błaszczak said that Poland's goal was to “Polonize” the systems by installing them on Polish Jelcze and integrating them with the Polish battlefield command system. Already then, the minister also talked about the possible co-production of missiles.

Guided GMLRS missiles are the basic type of ammunition for HIMARS, the main variant of which has a range of up to approx. 70 km. Last year, the US Department of State approved the sale to Poland of a total of up to 9,000. missiles of this type in three variants.
