Minister of Culture and National Heritage Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz announced that he refused to secure additional funds for 2024 in the amount of over PLN 13 million for the construction of the headquarters and permanent exhibition of the “Memory and Identity” Museum. The social media post explained that the refusal was related to “limited investment funds in the Budget Act for 2024.”
No further withdrawals
It was reported that the director of the “Memory and Identity” Museum, Father Jan Król, asked the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for additional funding. “At the same time, Minister Sienkiewicz pointed out that in accordance with the agreement on co-running the ‘Memory and Identity’ Museum by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the ‘Lux Veritatis’ Foundation, whose chairman of the board is Father. Tadeusz Rydzykand the Annex to this agreement, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage is not obliged to secure investment funds for the implementation of the above tasks for 2024, because their financing from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage was to take place in the years 2019-23,” it was written on the platform X of the Ministry of Culture.
Museum “Memory and Identity” Saint John Paul II in Toruń is an institution related to Father Tadeusz Rydzyk. It was established in June 2018 in accordance with the agreement concluded between the Vice-President of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Lux Veritatis Foundation. The Lux Veritatis Foundation was established in 1998 by Redemptorists Father Jan Król and Father Tadeusz Rydzyk.
The website of the Ministry of Culture emphasizes that “the task of the ‘Memory and Identity’ Museum is to promote the history of Poland, Polish heritage and cultivate the idea of freedom and solidarity both in the national and international space. These are the key words around which the narrative of the ‘Memory and Identity’ Museum is built. ‘are: heritage, cultural community, search for the common good, charisma of freedom and solidarity.
Payments from the Justice Fund suspended
Let us remind you that January 8 Ministry of Justice announced the suspension of payments from the Justice Fund. The entities whose payments have been suspended include the Lux Veritatis Foundation. By the end of 2026, the Foundation was to receive a total of nearly PLN 7.2 million.
