Attorney Jerzy Glanc, the representative of the Adamowicz family, and Antoni Pawlak, a friend of the murdered Paweł Adamowicz, commented on the verdict in the case of the murder of the president of Gdańsk in “Fakty po Faktach”. – He was a president who was close to people, walked the streets, did not hide in the shadow of his offices – recalled Glanc. – To this day, I cannot come to terms with this death and accept it – admitted Pawlak.
The District Court in Gdańsk – after a trial lasting almost a year and 25 hearings – issued a verdict in the case of Stefan Wilmontaccused of murdering the mayor of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz. Wilmont was found guilty of all charges against him. He was given a cumulative sentence of life imprisonment with the possibility of parole after 40 years. He was also deprived of public rights for 10 years.
– He committed a crime without precedent in the history of Poland – commented the judge in the verbal justification of the verdict. The court agreed – due to an important social interest – to publish the data and image of the killer.
The verdict was discussed in the Thursday edition of “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 by attorney Jerzy Glanc, attorney of the wife of the president of Gdańsk Magdalena Adamowicz and his brother Piotr Adamowicz, and Antoni Pawlak, a longtime collaborator and friend of Paweł Adamowicz.
Glanc: each trial date was a reminder of the moments we were lucky enough to experience together with Paweł Adamowicz
Attorney Glanc reminded that the crime concerned a person who “the inhabitants of Gdańsk knew very well”. – And not only because she had been president for over a dozen years, but because he was a president who was close to people, walked the streets, did not hide in the shadow of offices. Every trial, every trial date was a reminder of those moments that we were lucky to experience together with Paweł Adamowicz – he admitted.
When asked about his views on Wilmont’s motivation, the attorney replied that “we will all be looking for an answer to this question.” – Today we heard a criminal sentence that he is criminally responsible for this heinous crime he committed in front of the crowd, millions of spectators who watched this beautiful event, which is the finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, which we associate with everything but aggression not with violence, not with acts of this kind, he reminded.
– We heard the verdict, (Wilmont) was found guilty, but each of us will remember above all what he saw on stage – he noted.
Pawlak: Adamowicz’s office died with him
Pawlak admitted that he would prefer that the verdict should not be passed and that Wilmont would not kill a man. We lost a son, a brother, a father, a husband and a friend. When someone dies for a long time and in illness, a person gets used to the fact that this someone will be missing. When they suddenly kill someone, on such an amazing day, then … I, for example, to this day cannot come to terms with this death and accept it. I know it’s childish, but I think it may take a long time, unfortunately – he said.
He noted that he misses Adamowicz. – A very lack, not only humanly, but also in some way symbolic. His office, which was the place where his closest associates gathered, no longer exists. Aleksandra Dulkiewicz decided not to work in this office, this office no longer exists. And it seems to be a very good decision, because this cabinet died with Adamowicz – he noted.
Pawlak admitted that he fears that “we have lost one more”. We’re getting deeper and deeper into this paranoia of hate. I’m really afraid of what it might end up like. Here, very different scenarios are possible, but none of them is optimistic, he explained.
